Tennessee Capital Building in Nashville, TN. Designed by William Strickland, noted Philadelphia architect who designed the tower of Independence Hall, it was modeled it after a Greek Ionic temple and built of limestone. Construction was started in 1845 and was finished in 1859. Home of the Tennessee Legislature, the building was used as a fortress during the civil war. It is one of only ten state capitols (along with those of Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Alaska and Virginia) that does not have a dome.
