In 1844 this committeereported, showing the vital necessity to thepermanency of churches of suitable housesof worship, and proposing a plan for sys-tematic aid. The work was for eleven years under thecharge of a committee of the Board ofDomestic Missions. Then for five years,from 1855 to 1860, in care of an indepen-dent committee which, in the latter year,was made into a Board in name as well asin fact.
