Southend on Sea, Essex, UK. 5th Jun, 2024. A formation of four Army Air Corps Boeing AH-64E Apache helicopters have passed over Southend on Sea, on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. In 1944 part of the huge invasion armada would have been gathering in the Thames Estuary off Southend Pier (renamed HMS Leigh during the war) for the crossing to Normandy. The formation was headed by Apache serial number ZM705 callsign 'Hunter 1' and flew on to France, landing at Évreux-Fauville Air Base in preparation for their flypast over ceremony at Caen, which they did in afternoon
