In Cop-enhagen, as guests of the Danish NursesAssociation, we visited several munici-pal hospitals and saw the great advancemade in nursing in the Scandinaviancountries, both in the adoption of aneight-hour-day and in state pensions fornurses. TJw Brandeyihurger Tor^ Berlm In Finland, much has been done bothm the equipment of hospitals, which aremost modern and up-to-date, and innursing which has developed rapidlyduring the past twenty years. There arecentral preliminary schools from which,after six months, students are allocatedto different hospitals. Graduates who ac-cept institutional positions must have atleast three months training in ward ad-ministration in the Post-Graduate schoolat Helsinki. A great deal of this advanceis credited to Miss Pohjala, a memberof Parliament who is also a graduatenurse. We spent Easter in Stockholm, at theHeadquarters of the Swedish NursesAssociation, and saw both Red Crossand private hospitals, also the newRadium Institute around which a newmedical centre is being very rapidly builtup. All training schools are under gov-ernment supervision and although thereare no state examinations, all schoolshave to be approved and inspected by agovernment medical Board. The Sop
