The twenty-five foot tall gold-covered Buddha statue at Likir monastery in Ladakh District of Jammu and Kashmir, India.
The Likir monastery was first built in the 14th century and was rebuilt in the 18th century, and currently has a twenty-five foot tall gold-covered Buddha statue. This monastery is encircled with the bodies of the two great serpent spirits- nagarajas (Nanda & Taksako), so its name became widely renowned as Likir (The Naga - Encircled). Likir is a small town located in Ladakh. In the 15th Century the disciple of Khasdubje also known as Lhawang Lodos Sangphu caused the monastery to flourish.
