Elaborate decorationin a series of bands and borders from shoulder to base, compre-hending involved scrolls and fret, halberd heads, the small re-peated circle as a border motive, ridges and bosses in the ad-monitory ogre lineaments, with unornamented channels demarca-ting the raised and incised bands. Thickly incrusted variegatedpatina in sundry tones of green, blue, black and iron-rust brown,with the green dominant and pervasive. Height, 10 inctus: diameter, ISVj. 176—Large Ancient Ceremonial Dragon Wine Jar (Cliou) Of heavy sonorous bronze, witli its own original bronze form with contnictfd neck, deep, sHghtly spreading foot,two aniinal-liead looped shoulder-handles, and a third loopedhandle at the base of the face of the jar for assistance in pouringout the contents. Below the plain neck, which is marked by asingle ring, the jar is luxuriantly embellished with incised andbold relief massive oiiianuiitation over the entire surface, thecover (which has a neck-handle) included, the dragon motiveprevailing. On cover and shoulder archaic firc-breatiiing dragons,boldly carved, face each otiier; otiier dragons encircle the base;while on tiie lower boily appear in large form, four times repeated,the features of one of the mythological, symbolic animals—theinterspaces everywhere engraved witji intricate fret and scrollwork.
