Double decker house boat wading through Alleppey back water, Kerala
Houseboats in Kerala, south India, are huge, slow-moving barges used for leisure trips. They are a reworked model of Kettuvallams (in the Malayalam language, Kettu means "tied with ropes", and vallam means "boat"), which, in earlier times, were used to carry rice and spices from Kuttanad to the Kochi backwater cruise on a houseboat allows you to see the scenic man made islands and beautiful sights of coconut fringed backwaters and paddy fields. Thehouseboats are luxuriously equipped with all of the modern amenities you would need. There are single-bedroom & even four to five-bedroom houseboats available, with living rooms, bathrooms, an equipped kitchenette & air-conditioning too. A well trained crew of a cook and a bearer along with two oarsmen will be at your service all through.
