Surveyed township No. 4-9 embraces about two-thirds of a fulltownship, and contains at present two organizations for townshippurposes. It was originally called Warsaw; but when the city waserected into a township the country portion was detached and calledWilcox,—named from Major John R. Wilcox, an officer in the ser-vice at Fort Edwards, and afterward a prominent citizen of Warsawand one of its proprietors. About one-fourth of it is river bottom,beginning at the city limits and extending down the river to RockyRun tp. The remainder is chiefly woodland, there being a narrowstrip of prairie on the east line. The upland portion is a good dealbroken and cut up by ravines and water courses, running in all di-rections.
