The parish, containing also the village of Wanlock-head and part of Ckawick Mill, since 1727 has com-prehended great part of the ancient parish of Kilbrideor Kirkbride. It is bounded NW by Kirkconncl, NEand E by Crawfordjohn and Crawford in Lanarkshire,SE by Durisdeer, S by Penpont and by Dairy in Kirk-cudbrightshire, and W by New Cumnock in utmost length, from ENE to WSW, is 15§ miles ;its utmost breadth is 1\ miles; and its area is 64\ squaremiles or 41,077g acres, of which 231J2 are water. SANQUHAR HOUSE SAUCHIE Nith flows 2 miles east-south-eastward along the Kirk-connel border, then b\ miles through the interior : andamongst its numerous affluents the chief are KelloWater, running 8j$ miles north-eastward along the NewCumnock and Kirkconnel boundary ; Crawick Water,running 8 miles south-south-westward along the Kirk-connel boundary ; Euchan Water, running 9J mileseast-north-eastward through the south-western interior;and Minnick Water, running 6| miles west-south-west-ward through the nrrth-eastern interior. Declin igalong the Nith, at the point where it quits the pa; sh,to 347 feet above the sea, the surface is everywherehilly or mountainous. Chief elevations to the NE ofthe Nith are Dalpedder Hill (1291 feet), *Cairn Hill(1471), *Threehope Height (1802), Brown Hill (1544),Willowgrain Hill (1686), *Lowther Hill (2377), StoodHill (1925), *Wanloc
