After the fusionof these oxides is complete, he adds oxide of aluminium tothe bath, which is stated to readily dissolve, and then subjectsthe bath to the action of a direct electric current for the pur-pose of producing metallic aluminium. The apparatus for car-rying out the electrolysis is shown in longitudinal vertical sec-tion in Fig. I. It consists of an iron box A, lined preferably. FIG.
