Olsan, of Ames, la., arrived in this city on August 19, after a thrill- ing trip from Vienna, Austria. Mr. Olsan was in Vienna when the Euro- pean war broke out. He succeeded in , reaching London, where he stayed at the American Club until he could pro- ceed on to Liverpool in time to em- bark on the steamer Laconia of the Cunard line, which arrived at New York on August 17. The trip across the ocean was an exciting one. all lights being darkened until the steamer was nearly in sight of New York. Mr. Olsan says that the Statute of Lib- erty was the most welcome sight of the entire trip. John Swenson, who does the buying on the local market for the George "Wittbold Co. and Victor Young, man- ager of the Clark street store, are back from an outing at Devil's Lake. Wis.
