The traditional watch system arose from sailing ships of the late 19th century and was used by the Royal Navy and many other Commonwealth navies Prince William is one of the two purposely built sail training vessels owned by the Tall Ships Youth Trust. She is a 60 meter, steel hulled, square-rigged brig built in Appledore, Devon, and was launched in 2001.
