The plastic greenhouses are spread over an area so huge that they are not only visible from space but they also reflect so much light that the average temperatures in the area in southern Spain are dropping while the rest of the country gets percent of the fruit and vegetables - mainly tomatoes and peppers - grown under the plastic sea near Almeria are exported to Britain and northern an area the size of The Isle of Wight there are nearly 100,000 acres of greenhouses packed into the area photographed. And they are now spreading rapidly hundreds of miles along the Mediterranean years ago there were almost no plastic greenhouses in this region. In fact Spaghetti western films were once shot here, because the land was so dry and barren.
