Antennae galaxies, composite image. Two galaxies (NGC 4038 and NGC 4039) are colliding here. They are 60 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Corvus. This image, which shows an area about 61,000 light years across, was obtained in a series of observations over several years by NASA's Great Observatories. X-ray data is from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue); optical data is from the Hubble Space Telescope (gold and brown); and infrared data is from the Spitzer Space Telescope. The image was published in August 2010.
