And not at that time overtaxed withthe supervision of a large office force, nor yet the direction of asomewhat unwieldly faculty, the current of his life must have ransmoothly enough during these early years. The first addition to the teaching force came in 1884, whenProfessor Troop, also fresh from the pine woods of Michigan,decided that this young and struggling Agricultural College mustneeds have his assistance as Horticulturist.
