In Toshinobu's image, the male actor Sanjō Kantarō is depicted in a female role, with the actor Ichimura Takenojō seated in front of him. The mirror in the right foreground leads the viewer diagonally into the interior and also indicates the setting: the actors are in a dressing room preparing for a performance
