Video cassette recorder. Simulated X-ray of a video cassette recorder (VCR) seen from above. This device is used to record and playback audio- visual information. A video cassette is introduced through a door in the front of the recorder (lower left). The tape is extracted from the cassette and passed through a series of rollers and rotating drums and heads (centre left), before spooling back onto the cassette. The recording head lays down audio-visual information from a television onto the tape. The reverse occurs during playback. The rest of the VCR comprises electronic circuitry for the conversion of signals and control of the heads.
