The doors for box cars are nearly identi-cal with those described above, the onlydifference of note being in the constructionof the hinges, which, on account of the 295 character of freight, it was necessary tomake, so that when the doors were closedthey would have a flush surface to preventinjury to any load in transit. Fig. 2 explains this fully, in which it isseen that the doors are hung from girth asbefore, and suspended by eyebolts also,but these eyebolts have their heads in ahorizontal plane in order to engage witha 3,^-inch link, the girth being gained toreceive both bolt and link, the latter ofwhich connects at its opposite end with astrap ^ X I inch, which is secured to thedoor in same manner, and has same lock-ing device as in Fig. i.
