The amount of loose scaling issometimes abundant, but usually moderate in amount. Thehair, if the scalp is involved, is dry. The nails are oftenpitted. There isa marked absence of perspiration, and lessened sebaceoussecretion ; and the patients are sensitive to cold. The dis-ease is usually worse in cold weather. Ichthyosis hystrix is one of the rarest forms of the dis-ease. It is never general, but confined to a limited area,or to a number of areas.
