La Recoleta convent in the Plaza Pedro de Anzares, a broad square overlooking the city of Sucre, Bolivia
Sucre is the most beautiful city of Bolivia, situated at 2790metres above sea level on the eastern edge of the Altiplano. It was the centre of colonial Spanish power and was made the capital after independence, a status it still retains. It has a wealth of colonial architecture and one of the oldest universities in Latin America. La Recoleta convent was founded in1538 by the Franciscan monks, though the church was remodelled in the nineteenth century. The Plaza Pedro de Anzares has commanding views over the city and surrounding mountains
