Tibet is the remote -Buddhist Himalayan territory known as the "roof of the world", and is governed as an autonomous region of China however the allegiances of many Tibetans still lie with the exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, who fled to India following the anti Chinese uprising in 1959.
