Painter^s Coat of Arms, Imbedded in the front of a building on the corner of Han-over and Marshall streets, may be seeu a neatly-carved andwell-preserved coat of arms. lu the centre is a quarteredshield, supported on either side virith rampant lions chained;resting on the shield is a crowned helmet; above is apparently aphoenix rising out of the flames. At the top is C 17 0 1T K and underneath the arms the motto: Amor Oviat coat of arms was taken from an old wooden building onon the same spot that had for generations been occupied bypainters, when the building was demolished in Boston Stone, In the rear of the building justmentioned, enclosed in the wall,is a large block of brown sand-stone, with a cavity in the top, inwhich fits a round stone or globemade of the same material. Itwas brought from England about1700, and was used by pahitersto grind paint. Deeply cut onits face are the words, BostonStone, 1737. On Foster Street formerly stood Paul Eeveres cannon andbell foundry. A variety of articles for domestic use were man-ufactured at this foundry. It is said to have been erectedabout 1790. The house of Dr. Eliot, formerly pastor of the New NorthChurch, still standing, is a wooden structure in fair is the second house from the north corner of Hanover andTileston streets. The old building on the corner of Marshall and Unionstreets, now known as Atwoods oyster house, was where Ben-jamin Thompson, afterward known as Count Eumford, learnedhis trade.
