Dog Fighting On Fridays in Mazar-i-Sharif, Balkh Province, Afghanistan. Banned as un-Islamic by the Talibans, dogfighting tournaments usually happens in the early morning on Fridays. Afghans love to fight. This is a source of entertainment for the spectators, only male adults and boys. The owner of a dog takes huge pride when his dog wins. The other dog can be severely wounded or even killed. Meanwhile, spectators bet large amounts of money: in larger cities where crowds are numerous, this can amount to several tens of thousands of dollars.
