Mermaid Hotel, Yeovil in 1975 number 0694

Mermaid Hotel, High Street, Yeovil in 1973 or 74. The earliest mention of this establishment is from 1517 and it was described as an important coaching inn with one shop in 1770. The archway was to get horses to the rear stabling but in this photograph shows revolving doors with, on the outside, a six light chandelier. The shop to the right is twentieth century and here occupied by "Buy Fresh" while the shop to the left "Braddicks" tobacconist shows up on a plan of 1957. The building was Grade 2 listed in 1951.
