Therivets in the first and the second row of the seam will bestaggered. The rivets in the third row will be half asmany and placed in line with those of the first. The rivetson the left hand side of the sheet will be laid off in asimilar manner. A 2^4 plug is required on the right andleft hand side of this sheet, and they will be three inchesin front of the front row of rivets in the back seam and17J/2 inches up from the side centers. Five holes are re-quired on each side of the center for the waist sheet angle 51 The gusset The Figure 17Development of gusset sheet shown on boiler in Plate 2. 52 Laying out the gusset sheet. iron, also a 2*4 plug on the bottom center line. Theseholes for the plugs must be drilled about two inches indiameter, as the sheet in bending will open up somewhaton the outside. In the end view of the boiler, Plate 4, it will be seenthat nine throat stays are shown. These stays will beattached to the dome course and holes will have to be putinto this sheet for them. They are laid off in Fig. 16 asthey should appear on this sheet. Gusset Sheet. The gusset sheet shown in Plate 2 will next be de-veloped. It will be noticed that this sheet belongs to thatclass of gussets where the lower element is parallel to thecenter line of the boiler, and as the slope of the top ele-ment is considerable, this sheet can be developed by themethod shown in Fig. 1.
