Y., and the corner of theBowery and Canal Street, Manhattan. The route is 2miles long, about half the distance being over the Man-hattan Bridge. This line had been operated on thelower-deck tracks of the bridge, but since these trackswere intended to be used by the rapid transit line con-necting the subways in Manhattan and Brooklyn, itbecame necessary to operate the Three-Cent Line on theupper deck. This made it essential to adopt a methodof supporting the trolley wire which would give themaximum degree of safety as well as good operatingconditions.
