Andrews, alias Puckum, was born atHurlock, Maryland, May 11, 1888—a loyal son ofthe Good Old Eastern Sho. His early life wasspent in faithful and industrious service on thefarm, meanwhile taking the course of primaryschool education. In 1905 Ray entered the Wil-mington Conference Academy at Dover, Dela-ware. It was here that he was dubbed Puck-um, which cognomen has clung to him eversince. It was also here that he made his debutupon the gridiron. After a year at the Academy Ray decided thata farmers life should be his future career, andso thought it wise to complete his education inhis state agricultural college.
