No fishing for eels sign at the end of the jetty at Lake Rotoiti, St Arnaud, Nelson Lakes. A number of eels live under the jetty and are easily attracted when the water of the lake is lightly disturbed by, for example, human action such as fingers in the water. The eels are longfin eels and live to a great age. Being in the Nelson Lakes National Park the eels are a protected species.
