Proxima Centauri is the closest star to the Sun. It lies light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus. Proxima b orbits in the habitable zone around Proxima Centauri, where the temperature may be suitable for liquid water to exist on its surface. The first signs of Proxima b were seen in 2013, but its presence wasn't confirmed until the 24th August 2016. The double star Alpha Centauri AB is also seen at upper-right of Proxima Centauri.
