An Italian cup-hilted rapier, 2nd half of the 17th century. Double-edged thrusting blade ridged on both sides with copper soldered ricassos. Iron cup guard of engraved open work vines, attached by screw at the base and with a reinforced rim. Extended quillons and a knucklebow with thickened ends. The decorative grip cover has iron, copper, and brass wire with braided ferrules and an iron pommel chiselled in vine patterns.
