In liis native country John Harvey wasreared and at the usual age he entered thepublic scliools. He remained in England un-til twenty-two years of age and in his earlylife he was employed as a groom and alsoworked as a farm hand for about a yearprior to his emigration to America. Hearingfavorable reports of the opportunities af-forded in the new world, he determined toseek his fortune and in the spring of1870 he batle adieu to his friends and nativeland and sailed for the United at Xew V(jrk he came then to Kentcounty, Michigan, where he located forabout three years, during which time helived upon a farm. In May, 1873, he ar-rived in Wexford county and here he ac-quired and cleared a tract of land. Laterh
