Macdonald,Fraser and Co. opened their spring sales. As wasthe case in the previous week, when Polled Cattlemade abnormally high prices, ilu- demand for cattlewas brisk and sustained. The total number jfanimals catalogued was 608. two less than last year,and of these 103 were cows and heifers. There werebuyers present from tho Argentine, from SouthAfrica and the United States, and, as will be seenfrom the list of prices, there was a remarkably finetrade. The second day, of course, was the moreimportant, but on the first day the judging tookplace and females were sold as well as a few of tli>-bulls. Four figures were quite commonly paid, but
