Thebuildings stand on elevated ground, hav-ing a commanding, variegated, and beau-tiful prospect. The library of the seminary containsabout fifteen thousand volumes. There is an athena3um and news-room, supported by the students. An-nexed to the institution is a commodiousmechanics shop, where the students canexercise themselves in carpentering orcabinet-work. The term is three principal study for the first year isthe Bible in its original tongues. Thesecond year is occupied in the study ofsystematic theology. The third year isdevoted to the study of ecclesiasticalhistory, and the composition of is also a Teachers Seminary nearthe institution, which will accommodatetwo hundred students. It is under the trus-tees of Phillips academy and four Newton Theological Sejiiinary,under the patronage of the baptist de-nomination, was founded in Newton in1825, and was incorporated by the legis-lature the next year.
