Peruvian mummy, X-ray research. Geneticist Coralee Castillo (left), forensic anthropologist Angel Minaya (centre) and researcher Mercedes Gonzalez (right) examining an X-ray of the head of the mummy of a young woman. This mummy is held at the Darder Museum in Girona, Spain. It originates from Peru and dates from around 1200 years ago. Ongoing anthropological research using forensic and X-ray techniques is attempting to discover her role in society, and her cause of death. Gonzalez is director of IECIM (insituto Estudios Cientificos en Momias). Photographed in 2013, in the Clinica Maz X-ray laboratory, in Madrid, Spain.
