But England had repudiated Cum-berlands convention and recalled him; Englishand Hanoverian forces were again put into thefield, under the capable command of PrinceFrederick of Brunswick, who turned the tide inthat quarter against the French, and the resultsof the year were generally favorable to 1759, the Hanoverian army, under PrinceFerdinand, improved the situation on that side;but the prospects of the King of Prussia wereclouded by heavy disasters. Attempting to pusha victory over the Russians too far, at Kuners-dorf, he was terribly beaten. He lost Dresden,and a great part of Saxony.
