Diagnosis: Rostral contacts nostril, preanal pores absent, throat smooth, flank tubercles enlarged and hooked; attenuated tail tip > 1/3 total tail length. Comments: Ogilby's (1892) description is adequate, although a variable feature — a spinate knob on the brillar flap — is stressed as the diagnostic character. Günther (1897) described P. lichenosus based on his specimen's variance from P. cornutus in this character. This is one of the largest Austrahan geckos, reaching 144 mm SVL (AMS. : Holotype of Gymnodac- tylus cornutus Ogilby, 1892 ( = Phyllurus cornutus). AMS R749.
