Stanley Steamer car. This is the 1906 model of the steam-powered car produced by the Stanley Motor Carriage Company, a US company that operated from 1902-1917. The steam engine is at the front of the car, in the coffin-shaped bonnet section. In 1906, a Stanley Steamer called the Stanley Rocket set a world land speed record of kilometres per hour, and is still (as of 2006) the faster ever steam car. Photograph published in The March of Commerce (1927), volume 4 of The Pageant of America: A Pictorial History of the United States. This was a 15-volume series that commemorated 150 years since the founding of the USA in 1776.
