Thurman was born May 6, 1852, in La Rue County, Kentucky; received an•academic education; moved to Utah in 1870, and at once commenced teaching school-at Lehi City, Utah County, which vocation he followed almost exclusively for eightjyears. He then began the practice of law, and went to Ann Arbor, Mich., 1879, at-tending the law lectures for several months at that place. He is associated in his profession with Mr. George Sutherland, a firm which,•without doubt, has the largest and best practice of any south of Salt Lake City. commenced official life at the early age of twenty-two. From that periodto the time of his going to Ann Arbor he was an Alderman and member of the CityCouncil of Lehi City, and in 1882 was elected Mayor of that place, an office he re-signed when moving to Provo in November of the same year.
