Another restraining influence wasthe knowledge that the farmers had shotguns all loadedand ready for strange visitors in their orchards, and thatthey would shoot, was practically demonstrated one day when Private P limped painfully into camp headed in the direction of the hospital, where he gave the surgeona half-days job of probing for some twenty odd shot. Forlong afterwards, the boys joked him about the moth holesin the seat of his trousers.
