Conference records are preserved from1827, when the name was The Connecticut ChristianConference. In 1875 the Rhode Island and Connecti-cut, originally the Connecticut Conference, united withthe Rhode Island and Massachusetts Conference,forming the present body. A number of active churchorganizations in eastern Connecticut have since thenlived and disappeared. The main strength of the con-ference is now in the vicinity of Narraeansett Bay. The prevailingcustomamongthe churches is to makethe manifest desire to live godly in Christ Jesus thecondition of affiliation. Those well
