Lock gates and canal basin at the Ribble Link Preston Lancashire
The Ribble link was the 'missing link' in the Lancaster Canal System. Britain's newest inland waterway, the four-mile Millennium Ribble Link connects the once-isolated Lancaster Canal with the main navigable system via a canalisation of the tidal Savick Brook. The Link runs around the outskirts of Preston and flows into the River Ribble, which itself connects with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal's Rufford Branch. It is the only canal in the UK built for leisure purposes, it is also tidal.
