Caption: Lahsa, TAR, China - Jul 2001. Monks at afternoon puja in the shady courtyard of Ganden monastery. Reading from sacred scripts, chanting and debating on issues of theology and philosophy, the monks from Ganden- like at most monasteries- meet a couple of afternoons a week to participate in Puja. Sacked during China's Cultural Revolution, Ganden, which was once the centre for Tibetan politics, was largely destroyed. Much of the sprawling monastery has since been rebuilt, although it no longer maintains its essential role in scholarly and political affairs.
