He further argues that regularity in meals,exercise, work and rest have a powerful effect in tranquilizingthe mind, breaking up wrong associations of ideas and inducingcorrect habits of thinking as well as acting. Lee, assistantphysician, was promoted to the office of superintendent. Dr. Leedied in October, 1836, at the age of 28, while on a visit to hisfriend. Dr. Woodward, at the newly opened Worcester was a man of remarkable brilliancy and lovableness, and hisone report is a unique document in its grasp of the needs of theasylum and in its moral force. So much impressed by it werethe trustees that Dr. Lees successor. Dr. Bell, was instructed bythem to carry out the rules of government and suggestions oftreatment therein outlined. During the year 1835-36, under Dr. Lees administration, thefirst piano and the first biUiard table were purchased; the generallibrary was started with 120 volumes; religious services wereintroduced; the Belknap Sewing Society for women patientswas organized
