Cracked in half dehusked sprouted coconut with white spongy meat on white background
When a coconut naturally falls to the ground it will begin to grow when the conditions are ideal. A sprout forms on the outside while on the inside of the coconut the composition changes and a spongy mass forms to feed the young roots. This spongy mass is edible and sweet and is similar in texture to a snow cone.
