It has two decks or floors, the upper one, thirty feet wide, occupied by the double trackof the Grand Trunk Railway, thelower comprising a broad carriage-way in the center, and footwalksoutside of all, making a total widthof fifty-seven feet. The sustaining strength of thestructure is enormous, and thedoubts and fears which timid pas-sengers could never quite subdueconcerning the old bridge are noweffectually banished by the solid-ity of this structure with its sixmillion pounds of steel. The en-tire bridge was fashioned by thePennsylvania Bridge Conipan}-, intheir shops at Steelton, Pa., andshipped in sections, the ribs of tliemain arch being in twenty-five tonsections.
