Fuel stocked up outside the Western Wood biomass energy plant, Margam , South Wales UK
The plant is the first commercial scale biomass renewable energy power station in Wales. The wood combustion plant sited in Margam, Port Talbot generates 14MWe, which is sufficient to meet the needs of 31,000 homes. The plant itself burns 160,000 tonnes per year of clean wood, a large proportion of which is supplied by the Forestry Commission from managed woodland in South Wales. By burning this sustainable fuel, some 47,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel are avoided.
