A chasma (wide depression at right) is a deep and elongated canyon, and a catena (left) is a chain of similarly sized impact craters. This area is part of the Valles Marineris canyon system on the Martian equator. Data for this image were obtained in May 2004 by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on ESA's Mars Express.
