Heboarded in the home of ]Mr. Hoopes. whohad the only house upon the prairie in thisvicinity at that time. Night and morninghe went to and from his place of work, adistance of two and one-half miles. In thefall of 1857 he erected a small liouse uponhis own farm, there keeping bachelors.
