Vine trained across the width of a narrow lane in the Medina of Marrakesh. The plant has an ornamental metalwork cage to protect its vulnerable base and main stems. The lanes are not wide enough for cars, but are often busy with heavily laden donkeys, mules and asses, handcarts piled high with goods, along with scooters, mopeds and motorbikes and pedestrians, all moving in opposite directions. Any of these passers-by could inadvertently damage the vine when the lane is crowded.
