The building has a main flooron which are placed the transformers and two 400 sets, arranged much as in the olderstations ; there is also a second or gallery floor, thiscontains compartments and high-tension oil switchesand is in reality a sectionalizing house for the powercompany and a switching house to enable this stationto derive its source of electrical supply from any one ofthree transmission lines. The main, double transmission line of the PacificGas & Electric Company between Colgate and Oak-land passes through this station. A transmission lineof the same company from Marysville, paralleling the. Interior of a Portable Sub-Station. road also comes to this station and continues to sub-station No. 9. With this arrangement of switches and disconnecting switches which are mounted on poles,outside of the building, current may be taken from theMarysville line or from either of the Bay lines. Itis similar in all respects to No. 5. The last source of energy is at Sacramento. Thisis derived from the sub-station of the Pacific Gas &Electric Company at 6th., & H Sts. There is onemotor-generator set similar to all of the others in useand this is owned by the Northern Electric Company. The total installed capacity of the sub-stations is5,200 kilowatts.
